Sixty swimmers from all over the country flocked to Carrick-on-Suir last Saturday afternoon to take part in the annual Barry McCarthy Memorial Swim in the River Suir.
The charity swim attracted competitors from as far as Dublin, Cork and Limerick as well as a large contingent of locals, many of whom used the event as preparation for the Carrick-on-Suir Triathlon this Sunday.
The event included a parents and childrens race as well as mens and women’s races over 500m, 750m and 1500m.
Neil Bolger from the Pulse Triathlon Club in Dublin was the star of the day winning the three men’s swim races.
Race organiser Gary McCarthy said the event raised about E2,000 for South Tipperary Hospice Movement and they hope to hand over the cheque to a hospice representative at the Carrick-on-Suir Triathlon.
