The School Parents Association Gala Weekend which was held over June 15/16/17 was a great success and even the weather co-operated on the Sunday. Friday saw a great card game at Jacksons. The rain on the Saturday didn’t dampen the spirits of the large the numbers at the Galty Cottage Coffee Morning which was every bit as enjoyable as it was last year, nor did it affect the wonderful evening of music with Comhaltas at Jacksons on the same day. On Sunday, the rain cleared and the sun even shone for a few hours which ensured large crowds at the Gala Day in the School grounds. Johnny McMahon was in hot demand with his magnificent horses and carriage. The amount of work which goes into preparing for this weekend is extraordinary so congratulations to each and every one of the organisers and helpers. In these difficult times it was great to hear that sponsors were generous in their support and helpers were generous – as usual - in giving their time on the day.

The loss of water-supply caused some panic on last Saturday with the coffee morning planned for that day. Crystal clear water for the coffees and teas had already been purchased but with so many people expected there was a danger that the morning would have to be cancelled if ‘facilities’ were not available. Thanks and well done to the lads on the County Council who came out on the Saturday morning to Glengarra to restore supply. Karol and Ed thank all who contributed or helped in any way, especially all who donated baked goods or money towards the fund-raiser for the school. Almost €E450 was raised for the Parents Association.

The MS climb on Sunday was a fantastic success. Organisation was superb, stewarding was exceptional and the food and refreshments were in plentiful supply for all the climbers. Great numbers took part in the climb and the weather stayed favourable for the duration. According to one climber “The fog closed in on the top of Galtymore just as we got back to the Black Road”. Perfect timing!

Ballyporeen Community Council are fundraising towards renovating and repairing the Parochial Hall. To this end they have applied for funding from Tipperary Development Company but will have to come up with a substantial amount of money themselves. They are undertaking a Community Draw with tickets at €E20 each. Members of the community council will call to every house in the parish in the next few weeks and ask for your kind support.

Congratulations to Shannon Brennan who was on the girls under 12 Tipperary soccer team which played Limerick recently at Holycross Football Club.

Congratulations to Kilcoran Stags who prevailed against their old rivals Graigue in the Tug-o- War at Skeheenarinky on Sunday. Local man Eamonn Walsh pulls with the Stags and they are trained by our own Seanie Crotty.

Gearoid O’Brien celebrated his 17th birthday on June 15. We join with his friends in sending him many Happy Birthday wishes.
