THOMAS F KIELY TALK
There was a great turn out for the talk on our local Olympian. Thanks very much to Kevin McCarthy for giving a very interesting and insightful lecture.
We met Ballyporeen in the South Semi-Final in Clonmel on Sunday evening. Both teams were slow to start but it was Ballyporeen who ignited first. They hit 3 points without reply followed up by a well taken goal left us trailing with a half time score of 1-7 to 0-4. Ballyporeen continued to dominate in the opening quarter of the second half. However we dug deep and showed great spirit as we fought our way back into contention. James Wallace, who was outstanding at midfield, goaled following a great team move.
This left three points between the teams. Ballyporeen showed their experience as they fought back with well taken scores of their own. The final score was 1-8 to 1-13. Best for us on the day was JP and James Wallace and Michael Meagher who was our brightest forward.
Team: Shane Comerford, Willie Lambe, Brian McCarthy, Mark Cahill, Thomas Grinsell, Enda Fogarty, JP Wallace, James Wallace (1-0), Robert Murphy, Thomas Dineen, Dean Madden, Willie Wallace, Michael Meagher (0-2), Tom Kennedy (0-4), Paul Cahill (0-2). Subs: Kieren McGuire for Thomas Grinsell. Nigel Cleere for Mark Cahill. Thomas Grinsell for Shane Comerford.
The club would like to extend its best wishes to Ballyporeen’s Michael O’Neill who received a serious injury during the game.
Belated congratulations to Michael Meagher, who respesented the county minor footballers against Mayo in Croke Park. Although they were beaten, it was a great moment for Michael. Michael is eligible again next year. We are sure he we excel to play an even bigger part in the blue and gold next year.
