Following the long summer holidays the local school re-opens on this Thursday, August 30. We wish teachers and pupils a very successful school year. We would like to wish the boys and girls who left this year the very best in the secondary schools of their choice.


Congratulations to all the local students, their teachers and classmates who excelled in this years leaving exam.


Please note the change in the weekend Masses in the parish. On this Saturday, September 1, the Mass in Newcastle will be at 6.30pm and in Fourmilewater on Sunday, September 2, at 11am.


Practice will take place in Newcastle Church on this Thursday evening, August 30, at 8pm. New members welcome.


Owing to inclement weather conditions the Mass which was to be held on Saturday last was postponed to a later date.


All-Ireland Hurling final tickets - Anyone looking for tickets for the All-Ireland hurling final should contact Eamon McGrath before Sunday, September 2.

Junior A Football Championship - It is expected that the junior footballers will be playing the South semi final over the coming weekend, likely to be Sunday evening. Please check the South Board fixtures for confirmation

Juvenile notes - The club’s juvenile players had a very busy and very successful week. On Wednesday evening, August 22, the under 10’s took part in a tournament in Goatenbridge involving Ballybacon-Grange and Ballylooby. Newcastle ended in second place and received the silver medals. The players involved were Ciarán O’Loughlin, Jack Rice Fitzpatrick, Yvonne Clancy, Stephen O’Connor, Jack Kelly, Tom Ross, Tommy Kiely, Max Zimmerman and Aaron O’Neill Heffernan. Thursday evening saw a challenge game at under 14 between the Newcastle/Fr Sheehys combination and Kilsheelan, which produced a great game of hurling. The Newcastle players involved were Jamie Grant, Oisín O’Dwyer, Jason Hally, George Forbes, Pádraig O’Loughlin and Eoin O’Keeffe. Friday night was the turn of the under 12’s who played Clerihan for the Michael Kennedy Perpetual Cup. After losing the cup last year, Newcastle produced a great display to win back the cup. A big thank you to Michael Kennedy for presenting the cup and medals for both teams.


Ár gCéad Chairde sa Chaisleán Nua: Our First Friends Newcastle Baby & Toddler Group is starting in Tigh na nDaoine on Tuesday, September 11, from 10am to 12noon, and will continue every Tuesday. All children under five welcome and all parents, grandparents, carers, guardians etc welcome. Come along and have a chat and a cuppa while watching the children play. €3 per family. Youth Club - Waterford and South Tipperary and Community Youth Services, WSTCYS, are in the process of setting up a new youth club for children aged 8-12 years in Newcastle! This is only possible with the support of volunteers. No experience necessary. Free training and support will be given. If you would like to work with young people, meet new people and become part of a team of volunteers or if you have a talent or skill you would like to share with others or enjoy getting involved in different activities and sports then please contact Annette on 086 8863055.
