If you still have not got your ticket you had better get on your bike fast. You do not want to miss out on what is going to be a fantastic, fun filled day in Kilsheelan. It is a cheery sight to see colourful flowers wherever you turn, so well done to all and keep up the good work, as judging for Best Estate etc has still to take place. Prizes for the raffle are gathering and it looks like everyone who has a ticket could be in for a good draw. Tickets are €10 and are available from the Post Office, all three pubs in the village, and from every member of Kilsheelan Tidy Towns, but hurry... when they’re gone they’re gone! The remaining entries in the Children’s Art Competition will be on display at Maher’s from this week.

Kilsheelan had a three point victory over favourites Moyle Rovers in the first round of the South Senior Football championship. This was a good display of teamwork and they showed great commitment throughout and we wish them well as they advance in this competition.

We wish Niall Walsh and Triona every happiness together as they celebrate their wedding this Thursday.

The U16s got their hurling championship under way at home against Carrick Davins. Martin Gibbs was on the mark with two ‘65s and a pointed free. This was followed by points from play from Mark Kehoe, Shane Egan, Luke Kiely and Gibbs again. Davins’ first chance came in the form of a bullet of a shot on goal, which Sean Martin, between the Kilsheelan sticks, deflected over the bar. A point from play for Davins was followed by another outstanding Martin save and yet another unerring free from Gibbs. Mark Kehoe added a pointed free and Daire Brennan had a point from play before the break.

In that first half, Kilsheelan’s defence were on top, with Kian Quinn, Kevin Kehoe, Evan Quigley, Aaron Fogarty, Daire Brennan and Eoin Flavin all repelling attacks. That effort began to take its toll as the Davins scored 1-4 without reply. Mark Kehoe pointed two frees either side of two from Davins in what was now a much more even contest. In the middle of the field, Brendan Martin, Martin Gibbs, Shane Egan and brothers Darragh and Eoghan Kelly redoubled their efforts and set up half forward Brendan Martin for a goal to put some daylight between the teams. Davin’s pointed two frees before full forward Eddie Carroll scored a brace of goals either side of a Davin’s point. Frank Mallekoote was introduced. Davin’s finished much the stronger team with three unanswered goals against a tiring Kilsheelan side to end the game all square on 3-14 to 4-11.

U12, 14 and 16 are all in action in the coming weeks - check fixtures on website.

A wonderful spectacle in U10 hurling took place on Friday evening against Moyle Rovers. Both teams, fielding 11 a-side, gave it everything with scores of the highest calibre, catching, ground hurling and all the hurling skills on show for the appreciative spectators. It was end to end with no player on either side willing to concede. The final score was almost irrelevant as every player on both sides fought for every ball with such enthusiasm and spirit that was a pleasure to witness. Well done to all who lined out: Alex Hanrahan, Conor Nugent, Conor Neville, Jake French Davies, Emmet Butler, Senan Butler, Michéal Freaney, Casey Jay Coleman, Aidan Morrissey, Zach Loughlin, Jack Mulcahy and Jack Landy.

The U8s played a football challenge in Ballyneale and the girls travelled to play Clonmel Commercials during the week.

Well done to our Division 1 team of Rose Holohan, Brenda Rowan, Niall Gibbs and Richard Murphy who have qualified for the final of the South Tipp League. It takes place in Cashel on Tuesday, August 20, where opponents are expected to be the New Inn Club. We wish the team well and hope there will be a good travelling support. Commiserations to our Division 3 team: Attracta O’Reilly, Maggie Cody, Michael Martin and John Geoghegan who had to give best to a strong Kilfeacle quartet in their Semi Final. This team had a very good tournament and represented the Club with honour and dedication.
