Jack and Jill have been retained by the HSE to collect all the used crutches and zimmer frames to be recycled to the benefit of the Jack and Jill Foundation. In support of this Mattie McGrath TD will hold a Crutches Collection Day on Saturday, May 19, in his constituency office The Quay, Clonmel from 10am until 12 noon. Please support this worthy cause and bring along any old crutches that are no longer in use. Old mobile phones and ink cartridges will also be collected on the day in support of the Jack and Jill foundation.


Newcastle Fianna Fail Cumann would like to thank all who contributed to the National Collection which took place recently. Your contribution is very much appreciated.


Newcastle Muintir Na tire community council are holding the monthly meeting in the community hall on this Wednesday night, May 16, at 8pm. All are welcome.

Any Pioneer members who are now due for a silver pin (25 years in the association) or a gold pin (50 years) please contact any Pioneer Council member as soon as possible to enable us to have pins and certs ready for the presentation in June. Road Hurling Competition- The first Road Hurling Competition to be organised was held on the May Bank Holiday Monday, May 7. It was a new and novel event for the club and was very successful. 20 teams registered and completed the course with the winning team of Alan Cullinan, John McCarra and Paul Clarke covering the course in 41 pucs. A big thank you to all the teams who took part and those who gave sponsorship, especially the main sponsor, the Bridge Bar. The course finished at the Bridge Bar where refreshments were served thanks to the parents of the juvenile members.

Munster Championship Tickets- The first road of the Munster championship in both hurling and football will commence for Tipperary on Sunday week, May 27, in Thurles. Anyone looking for tickets should contact club secretary, Eamon McGrath on or before this Saturday, May 19.

Junior A Football Championship-The Junior A footballers played their first game in this years championship against St Patricks in Ned hall Park, Clonmel, on last Saturday evening, May 12. A very strong wind blowing straight down the field created the proverbial game of two halves. Newcastle played with the wing in the first half and opened up a lead of 3-5 to 0-3 at half time, with the goals scored by Brian Sweeney (2) and Brian Hyland. St Patricks came back into the game in the second half but another goal from Brian Sweeney sealed the result. Final score was Newcastle 4—6, St Patricks 1-12. Team was Darren Goonan, James Fitzpatrick, Tomas O’Dwyer, Emmet Prendergast, Caoimhin McGrath, Shane Hickey, Daniel Kennedy, Cormac O’Flynn, Brian Hyland (1-0), Alan Sweeney, Conor Grant (0-2), Barry Hickey, Andrew Fitzpatrick (0-2), Brian Sweeney (3-2), Eanna O’Flynn. Subs were Nialll Morrissey for James Fitzpatrick, Diarmuid Devaney for Eanna O’Flynn and Anthony Condon for Andrew Fitzpatrick.

For the recent cancellation of the Compost Demonstration due to take place due to bad weather again. A new date of Thursday, May 24, has been set and will take place at the composting site on the new line from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. All are welcome to attend.
