Characters of old Carrick lecture

Carrick-on-Suir historian Tom Walsh will present a talk in Carrick-on-Suir Public Library this Friday, October 5 recalling the many characters of former times in the town.

Application forms for a Halloween children’s colouring competition are now available at the Library.

Ring-a-Link Bus Service

The bus service to Carrick-on-Suir serving some of the rural communities in it hinterland runs daily Monday to Saturday from 7am to 7pm.

The bus starts at Killamery and travels to Carrick-on-Suir via Nine Mile House, Windgap, Kilmoganny, Tullahought, Ahenny, Ballyneale, Faugheen and Owning.

The service is open to everyone including employees travelling to work, commuters connecting with trains or buses leaving Carrick-on-Suir, people with disabilities, children travelling to school or other activities and senior citizens.

Fares are €5 for a return ticket and €3 for single. The Free Travel Pass is accepted.

The fare for children aged between five and 16 is €3 return and €2 single.

Children four years and under are free.

To book a trip telephone 1890 424141and the operator will give you a time for collection and return.

Call centre opening times are 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.

Church Heating Fund concert

The Suir Valley Folk Group will host a gala choral evening in St. Nicholas Church in aid of the Church Heating Fund on Friday October 12.

The concert, which starts at 8pm, will feature performance from choirs from Tipperary, Waterford and Kilkenny.

Tickets costing €10 are available from any of the Suir Valley Choir members, and also from the Nano Nagle Community Resource Centre and St Nicholas Church Sacristy.

There will be a door prize and also a raffle for a 32 inch flat screen television.

People may bring a cushion, if they so wish.

Carrick ICA meeting

Carrick-on-Suir ICA members travelling to the ICA Federation meeting are reminded it takes place on Thursday, October 4 in Cahir House Hotel.

The next monthly meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 10 at 7.30pm.

Faugheen ICA

The monthly meeting of Faugheen ICA Guild takes place this Friday, October 5. Arrangements for activities in the coming weeks will be discussed. The meeting will be preceded by an exercise session, which will start a few minutes before 8pm

Diabetes screening

South East Lions Clubs participated in the Nationalist Ploughing Championship diabetic screening and Carrick-on-Suir Club members manned the stand at the event’s opening afternoon.

Ann Ellis organised the volunteer nursing staff and Stephanie Keating, Maria Madden and the other volunteer Lion members organised the visitors wishing to have their diabetes checked and the recording of the results.

A total of 4,900 people were screened during the three days for the early detection of diabetes by measurement of their blood sugar, which is accomplished by a simple finger prick.

Congratulations to the New Ross Lions Club, especially Project Chairperson Caroline Foley for their attention to every detail for the convenience of the volunteers and visitors on the Stand.

Photography exhibition

Carrick-on-Suir Camera Club members will be exhibiting their work at Tramore Coastguard

Station throughout this month.

The exhibition opens at the Coastguard Station, located at Love Lane, Tramore, this Friday, October 5 and will run until the end of October. Opening hours are 10am to 5pm weekdays and 12 noon to 5pm at weekends.

The official opening will take place on Sunday, October 7 at 3pm. Admission is free and all

are welcome.
