SOCIAL SERVICES OUTING - The Annual Social Services outing will take place on Wednesday July 11 to Glenstal Abbey and Limerick. All senior citizens in the parish are welcome. Please give names to any member of the Social Services committee.
CHURCH GATE COLLECTION - The annual Social Services Church gate collection will be taken up at all churches in the parish on Saturday and Sunday July 7 and 8. Please give generously. Proceeds from the collection goes towards funding some of the work done by the committee, including meals on wheels, laundry, chiropody, outings, parties and hospital visitations.
TRIP TO HOLY LAND - Fr. Jackie Robinson PP is organising a trip to the Holy Land for ten days in June 2013 and so far there is great interest in this trip. Parishioners who would like to save for this once in a life time experience may contact the Credit Union in Roscrea where special arrangements are being put in place to facilitate those wishing to save for the trip.
COFFEE MORNING - Many thanks to all who supported and helped out at the coffee morning held in Killasmeestia Community Centre on Tuesday June 19. It was a great success and all money raised has been forwarded to the Diabetes Centre, Our Lady’s Hospital, Crumlin.
KYLE CEMETERY MASS - The Cemetery Mass and Blessing of graves in Kyle Cemetery will take place on Thursday evening July 5 at 7.30pm.
LAOIS ANTI LITTER COMPETITION 2012 - The Laois Inter Community Litter Challenge begins this week. This year the competition will operate on a knockout basis with 2 towns, 2 large villages and 2 small villages being judged against each other. The town/village with the highest score will progress to the next round. Every town/village will be judged once, however half of them will be knocked out in the first round and only those who progress will be judged again. This will continue until the final winner is announced.
Everybody in Borris in Ossory and Killasmeestia is being asked to keep the place clean and tidy. The weekly sweep up has begun and takes place each Tuesday at 7pm. Dog owners are asked to clean up after their dogs.
PROGRESSIVE 25 DRIVE - The results of last week’s Progressive 25 Drive in the O’Brien Hall were as follows 1st - John and Catherine Dalton, Neil Maher and Anna Costigan, 2nd - Tom Quigley and Tim Tierney, Lar and Stasia Maher, Sean and Anna Bourke, Raffle winners were - Paddy Dunphy, Tom Ryan and Stasia Maher.
The Progressive 25 Drive will continue next Thursday night in the O’Brien Hall at 9pm.
ICA MEETING - The monthly meeting of Borris in Ossory ICA guild will take place in St Canice’s Hall on Wednesday night July 4 at 8pm.
ICA WEEKEND AWAY - Anyone travelling on Borris in Ossory ICA guild’s weekend away must pay the balance of the fare to Lily Sheeran (0505-41308) before the end of this week. The trip will take place from Sunday July 29 to Wednesday August 1 and the venue will be Belfast. Staying at a four star hotel, the trip will include a visit to the Titanic Exhibition and the sights of Belfast. There will also be a day spent touring the Antrim coast and a visit to the ICA College at An Grianan, Termonfeckin, Co Louth for an evening meal on the way home.
OSSORY AGRICULTURAL SHOW - The Annual Ossory Agricultural Show will take place on Sunday July 22 at the Showgrounds, Coolfin Cross, Mountrath Road, Rathdowney. There will be classes in Cattle, sheep, horses, Poultry, eggs, jam, home baking, arts, crafts, vegetables, produce, flowers and photography, and also junior classes.
There will be many attractions on the day including Most Suitably dressed Lady and Gentleman, Little Miss Ossory and Most Suitably Dressed Boy, Dog Show, Music etc.

Sympathy is extended to Mrs Breda Tynan, Rockview, Borris in Ossory on the death of her sister, the late Mrs Maureen Mahon (née O’Byrne), Ballycommon, Tullamore, Co. Offaly. Her death took place on Monday June 18 and her remains reposed at her home until removal on Tuesday to the Church of Saints Francis and Brigid, Ballycommon. Following Requiem Mass on Wednesday burial took place in the adjoining cemetery.
The late Maureen is deeply regretted by her family Chris (an Spidéal) Don (Dublin), Mary (Kilkenny), Frances (Dublin), Geraldine, Patricia and James, brother Fr. Paddy O’Byrne (Daingean), sisters Brid, Bernadette and Agatha, son-in-law Mairtín, daughter-in-law Thérèse, grandchildren Eoin, Cathal, Conor, Denis and Jennifer, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
