I recently met up with Jacqueline Gallagher from Graffin, Clonmore, Templemore, and must admit I scarcely knew her because of her recent huge weight loss – she looks a million dollars !
Jacqueline moved over to this part of the world from Scotland eight years ago with her husband Jim and 2 boys. She is well known locally as she works part-time in Templemore Community Services. Her love for music and dance has definitely been passed on to the twins Dominic and Stuart who are well known in music circles in Templemore – they were part of a musical group in Our Lady’s Secondary School while students there, and both boys play with Thomas Mac Donagh Pipe Band. They are now students in UCD and when home on Friday nights they become Lifeguards at the Swimming Pool in the Garda College.
Jacqueline’s story is one of hope to all who may want to shed some weight – it is possible!!
This is Jacqueline’s story:
“I have been overweight for as long as I can remember... I joined Slimming World less than a year ago and so far I have lost over 5 stone, and the real bonus is that my family and I have lost a staggering 15 stone between us.
I was finding it very difficult to get up the stairs and I knew I had to do something as this was a real problem. Also my boys were sitting their Leaving Cert exams and were on their way to university. I was going to be on my own, so I had to do something or I would continue to put on more weight and become reclusive.
Before I joined Slimming World I had considered the “Gastric Bypass” but was put off when my boys were shocked that I would even consider this horrendous surgery. I had tried all the other diets such as The Atkins, Motivation, Weight Watchers (including the no count) and lost 2/3 stone but it never lasted a year – the weight was back on again... and once again I had tried and failed.
My boys (who are twins), are now 18 years old. I didn’t really think they were overweight until they also began to lose weight just because I was cooking healthy family meals. Dominic lost a total of 4 stone and was delighted when he set off to Uni in his skinny jeans. He has managed to maintain his weight loss without me but with the help of the “Extra Easy Plan”.
