Ború Triathlon 2013
It’s that time of the year again when athletes (local and national) are preparing for one of Ireland’s toughest sprint triathlons, The Brian Ború Tri challenge which will take place in Killaloe on Saturday, August 31st. Ennis Tri Club and the Killaloe-based race organising committee will host this event. Proceeds from the day will be donated to the local Clarisford Park project. This year’s winners, male and female, will each receive as an additional prize, an exclusive Europcar Tour de France cycle top kindly sponsored by Europcar.
The ‘transition’ for this fifth triathlon will be located at the Two-Mile-Gate; water stations will be available on the route and all athletes will receive refreshments after the race. Post-race shower facilities will also be available courtesy of the adjacent UL Activity Centre.
Both the 750m and the 1500m swim courses will start from the lakeshore at the Two-Mile-Gate and exit via the slipway. The 22km cycle route will once again provide a huge challenge with a ‘lung busting’ climb up the Ballyloughnane road followed by a technical descent into Tuamgraney and culminating in a dramatic undulating Lakeview cycle back to the transition area. The 7km ‘run’ continues to show no mercy, with an extremely steep uphill climb through Ballycuggaran woods, which is rewarded with spectacular mountain-top trail run with fabulous elevated views of Lough Derg, followed by a classic off-road descent through the woods and back onto the Ballycuggaran road for the final sprint to the finish line at the Two-Mile-Gate. Registration will take place at the Two-Mile-Gate on Friday, August 30 from 6pm to 9pm with limited registration available on the ‘race day’ from 8.30am to 9.30am.
