The South Tipperary post of the lrish United Nations Veterans Association (IUNVA) was formed in 2004 and initially held its meetings at Kickham Barracks, Clonmel, with
the kind permission of the Officer Commanding.
The activities of the post since then are many and varied, including attendance at all annual general conventions and executive meetings of the Association; participation at Remembrance ceremonies of other posts of IUNVA; Royal British Legion; American Legion, O.N.E. and the Combined lrish Regiments annual parade to the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London. The post also plays a major role in the Tipperary Remembrance Trust weekends. A number of members have also completed courses in the different areas of welfare and other disorders.
The South Tipp post is delighted, in conjunction with larnrod Eireann, to have secured the old Station Master’s residence at Clonmel Railway Station, which was officially opened earlier this month.
The premises will allow the IUNVA to provide the following for members and their families -A reception office for the post; a room for meetings, social and cultural activities to promote public understanding of the Irish role in United Nations; a room for a small military museum; and a consultation room for sufferers of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other disorders.
