WATCH: Mayor of Clonmel gives his reaction to rower Daire Lynch's Olympic bronze medal win

Cllr Michael Murphy was among the huge crowd that cheered on the Clonmel rower in his Olympic final race at Kickham Barracks Plaza

Mayor of Clonmel Cllr Michael Murphy has spoken of his pride at rower Daire Lynch's historic Olympic bronze medal win in the Men's Double Sculls final in Paris this morning (Thursday, August 1). 

Clonmel's first citizen paid tribute to the people of Daire's hometown of Clonmel for turning out in such huge numbers at Kickham Barracks Plaza to watch the race and declared it was a great day for Clonmel Rowing Club. 

Cllr Murphy thanked Tipperary County Council for organising the public screening of the Olympic rowing final at the Plaza located on part of the site of Clonmel's former Kickham Army Barracks.
