Tipperary singer Una Healy is feeling proud after releasing her new single ‘Never See Me Cry’ earlier this month.
Thurles native Una shot to fame with girl band The Saturdays and has since released solo albums and a brand new shoe collection.
Una spent last week visiting loved ones in County Tipperary, where she recalled having an ‘amazing childhood’ prior to her rise to stardom. “I still have some really close friends there that I stay in touch with,” she told The Nationalist.
36-year-old Una, who has two kids with rugby player husband Ben Foden, grew up in a family immersed in music. She is the niece of country singer Declan Nerney and her mum Anne also performed semi-professionally when she was a student nurse. A self-determined Una began to teach herself to play the guitar at the age of nine, and it wasn’t long before she was writing her own songs and breezing through her music exams.
Una started gigging in Hayes Hotel in Thurles and around Limerick before moving to Dublin to further her development. She then decided to venture outside of Ireland and travelled to London for an audition for The Saturdays.
She is excited about her upcoming tour, which kicks off in Killarney in June. “I have been writing loads and I’m more established as a solo act now. It’s so much fun getting to perform and do what I love,” she added.
