Sharlene Mawdsley qualified on Sunday afternoon for the World Athletics Championships women's 400m semi-finals in Tokyo.
The Newport sprinter ran in lane nine in her heat and put in a huge performance in a stacked field to reach the semi-final as one of the non-automatic qualifiers.

The fourth place finish for Sharlene Mawdsley in the third of the 400m heats meant the Newport AC athlete went through to the semi-final as one of the fastest non-automatic qualifiers with a time of 51.04.
