'Welcoming Cara as our youngest member is truly historic' says Tipperary Chamber CEO

Disability rights campaigner Cara Darmody has been announced as the newest member of the County Tipperary Chamber this week.

Cara has previously made history by being the youngest person to ever sit a Junior Cert and a Leaving Cert maths examination.

She previously sat both state exams as part of her campaign to raise awareness and funds for autism services in Ireland. The Tipperary teen is also a campaigner whose main message is to raise awareness about the lack of resources for children and adults with disabilities in the country.

As well as weekly protests outside the Dail to raise awareness about the issue, Cara has also started doing motivational speaking at events. She was even recently invited to Chicago by Colin Farrell himself, to be the keynote speaker at one of his foundation’s events. This has meant that at the young age of 14, she has brought her motivational speaking to international audiences already. On January 13, Cara again made history by proudly becoming the youngest ever member of the County Tipperary Chamber at just 14 years old.

Speaking with Cara about her achievement, she said: “I started my maths grinds business last February and I’m very grateful for Michelle Aylward and the chamber for embracing me. I’m really excited to be able to get my message out there and be able to inspire more people.”

Cara will continue her motivational speaking as she has also been chosen as a keynote speaker for an event the chamber is organising in the Cashel Palace for International Women’s Day in March.

Speaking with the CEO of County Tipperary Chamber Michelle Aylward about the news, she said this was a really exciting moment for the chamber as they welcome their youngest ever member.

“Welcoming Cara Darmody to the County Tipperary Chamber as our youngest-ever member in 100 years is a truly historic and proud moment for us.

“Cara’s achievements as a disability rights advocate, entrepreneur, and motivational speaker are nothing short of incredible. Her passion, determination, and positivity are qualities that inspire everyone she meets, and we are so proud to have her as part of the Chamber.

"Cara has already made an extraordinary impact in her community and beyond, and we are delighted to support her as she continues to grow her business and share her inspiring story. Her membership marks a new chapter for the Chamber, and we’re excited to see all that she will achieve in the years ahead.”
