The library services in one town in south Tipperary are moving a short distance down the street soon in Cahir, to the Granary building

It will soon be out with the old and in with the new, as cardboard boxes litter the entrance hallway to Cahir library and the shelves look a little empty.

The Council executive confirmed at Monday’s full council meeting that the service will finally move in November, although any details of an official launch, or if there will be one, have yet to be decided.

The new library will be a boon for those who work office hours, or prefer to work late as it will have an Open Library policy until 10pm, meaning those who register will have the option to use the library out-of-hours.

Tipperary Council’s Damian Ginty said back in June that the service was buying “a very eclectic collection of books, every book in that library will be brand new and we’ve been buying those for months now,” he told the meeting.

Mr Ginty also said that there will be four staff hired to do a five-day week and the library will be open at weekends using the new ‘Open Library’ system.

“This system means that everyone can use the library Monday to Sunday from 8am until 10pm,” he explained.
