Carrick-on-Suir heritage centre marks its reopening with community history walk

Carrick-on-Suir’s Tides of Time Visitor Centre walk is also part of the Clancy Brothers Music & Arts Festival’s programme of community events this weekend
Carrick-on-Suir’s Tides of Time Visitor Centre’s opening day will be celebrated with a community history walk today (Saturday, May 30) starting from the centre at 12 noon.
The walk is one of the Clancy Brothers Music & Arts Festival’s community events and will include refreshments afterwards at the centre’s café. Participants in the walk will explore the rich history, hidden gems and stories that shaped the town.
The town’s heritage centre, located in a former church, is reopening today following the completion of a €750,000 revamp spearheaded by Carrick-on-Suir Tourism & Economic Development Committee.
The state-of-the-art visitor centre tells the story of Carrick-on-Suir through its river, landscape, literature, working life and community voices
It includes a small bookshop and café to encourage visitors and locals alike to spend time in the space.
Work on the upgrade of the heritage centre began in 2020. The €441,000 final phase of the project began last year, and was made possible thanks to €352,647 funding from Fáilte Ireland’s Regenerative Tourism and Placemaking Scheme, which is co-funded by the EU and the Irish Government through the EU Just Transition Fund.
