The Nano Nagle Women’s Group in Carrick-on-Suir were delighted to be presented with certificates for completing a five-week Age and Opportunity Walking Football programme at Carrick Davins GAA Club grounds.
The certificates were presented to the group’s members at the Davins Club on August 12.
The course took place every Tuesday afternoon. The group’s coach Amy O’Connor was assisted by footballer Aoibhinn Stuart from Piltown and Waterford Development Squad who showed the ladies skills.
This football based activity is a fun non-contact sport specifically targeted at people over the age of 50 and takes place for an hour one day a week over five consecutive weeks.
Amy O’Connor said the ladies were amazing and the highlight was the tea and chat after each session.
“We had great laughs and they made me so welcome.”
The Nano Nagle Women’s Group enjoyed the walking football so much they are now going to keep playing every Tuesday.
They thank Carrick Davins GAA for facilitating them with the use of the training pitch and amenities and also their coach Amy and footballer Aoibhinn who encouraged them throughout their training.
