Public urged to act as planning issues put 60 bed hospital unit at risk in Tipperary
The people of Cashel and the surrounding areas are being urged to "get more vocal" to ensure the proposed 60-bed unit planned for the town is not lost due to planning issues.
Cahir Cashel Muncipal District Councillor Liam Browne took to social media earlier this week to say that when he asked for an update on the hospital's progress at a council meeting he was told that proposed plans may not go ahead.
Cllr Browne said: "When the HSE decided to not build at St Patrick's, and proposed to build a unit at Palmershill, they would have been in breach of planning regulations in the current Cashel town plan.
"Basically, they cannot get planning currently on Palmershill. This will delay any building of a unit that should already be built, and I personally fear, it will eventually not be built at all."
Cllr Browne called on members of the public to "put huge pressure on the Government and the HSE to fulfil the promise they made to the people of Cashel."
A promise he said was that they would "look after our older family members, friends and neighbours in the Cashel area, and not anywhere else."
His post concluded: "It's time to built the new 60-bed unit on the site of Our Lady's Hospital, in the middle of the town."
