'Chronic shortage' of public toilets in Tipperary's largest town

Call for more public toilets in Clonmel
There is a chronic shortage of public toilets in Clonmel.
That’s according to local councillor Richie Molloy.
More public toilets, similar to those in Cahir, should be provided in the town, he stated at a meeting of Clonmel Borough District, although he accepted that Cahir attracts a lot of tourists.
The council should write to Irish Rail and request toilet facilities at the railway station for people who arrived in Clonmel by bus or train. There was hardly a town in Ireland where you would arrive and no public toilet was available, he said.
It was also very difficult to find a public toilet in the town that was wheelchair accessible.
Toilets were needed on the Suir Blueway and at the Kickham Plaza in Clonmel.

A written reply to Cllr Molloy's request, from District Administrator Marie O’Donnell, stated that Clonmel had two automated public conveniences at Mulcahy Park and on the Quay.
“These toilets cleanse themselves and are attended to daily by the company that manages them on behalf of Clonmel Borough District. There is a significant cost associated with the provision of these toilets and there is no provision in the budget for additional units,” Ms O’Donnell stated.
Cllr Molloy said he was disappointed with this response. They would have to make provision at some stage for more public toilets, because people were complaining about the shortage.
