The Mayor of Clonmel Cllr Richie Molloy was delighted to host a mayoral reception for visitors from the twin towns of Eysines in France , Trofaiach in Austria and Reading in the UK as part of the St Patrick's Day celebrations in Clonmel.
"Twinning was an initiative set up after the second world war to enable the people of Europe to get to know each other as friends and neighbours and essential to realise we are all basically the same human beings no matter where we come from," said the mayor.
The mayor paid tribute to the local twinning committee in Clonmel for ensuring these links are kept alive and paid particular tribute to Aidam Fennessy the secretary of Clonmels Twinning Commitee.
The mayor went on to say twinning also brings tourism to the town as this year saw quite a large delegation visiting Clonmel, all the visitors were very impressed by the parade and the hospitality extended by our local citizens to them and promised they will certainly be coming back again and again.
