Uisce Éireann confirm major milestone has been reached with Tipperary upgrade project

The Clonmel water supply upgrade project has reached another significant milestone, with two thirds of the planned 15km of new water main now laid. The project will strengthen the resilience of the water supply for homes and businesses across Clonmel and surrounding areas, ensuring a more secure and reliable service for years to come.

The installation of new water mains is now complete on Thomas Street and along the Fethard Road, with works continuing to make steady progress on Clashaniska Road and on the Cashel Road. Pipelaying in the centre of the town has progressed on to Dillon Street with night works from 7pm to 7am being carried out over the next two weeks.

The upgrade of the Monroe water treatment will also shortly commence and will further support the delivery of a robust water supply in the area. The rationalisation of the Poulavanogue supply is planned for Spring 2026, after which customers currently on that supply will be connected to the upgraded Monroe treatment plant. Customers can check their supply zone and water quality in advance by logging on to www.water.ie.

Commenting on the progress, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager Darragh Hannon said: ‘We are pleased to have made such significant progress in the pipelaying installation works and appreciate the patience of the community in Clonmel as we carry out these essential works. This project will significantly enhance the reliability of the supply in the area and forms part of a wider investment in critical water infrastructure by Uisce Éireann across the county.’

Uisce Éireann is investing heavily in drinking water infrastructure across Tipperary, with multiple projects underway and planned across the county this year. In addition to the Clonmel water supply upgrade project, upgrades are also underway at Goatenbridge, Glenary and Glenbeha Water Treatment Plants, while from a wastewater point of view, upgrade works have recently been completed in Newport and are ongoing at the Fethard Wastewater Treatment Plant.
