Serious accidents fears on Tipperary road because of speed of traffic

Cllr FitzGerald has requested the council to consider installing speed traffic ramps/strips on the road

Residents were very concerned about the speed of traffic, which sometimes exceeded 100 kilometres per hour, on the Cashel Road in Clonmel near the Dr Pat O’Callaghan Sports Complex, the home of Clonmel Town FC.

This was stated by Cllr John FitzGerald at a meeting of Clonmel Borough District.

He said that residents were afraid that a serious accident would occur, with the nearby entrance to Melview Nursing home, the entrance to housing estates and the sports complex.

Cllr FitzGerald requested the council to consider installing speed traffic ramps/strips on the road.

A report to the meeting from District Administrator Carol Creighton stated that it was proposed to carry out a speed survey on the road at the Clonmel Town pitch to ascertain if speeding is an issue.

A solution in line with the council’s traffic calming policy would be identified if speeding is a problem at this location, she added.
