Clonmel band Cadhla are celebrating the release of their debut album When Birds Are Sleeping, which has been doing the rounds since the beginning of March.

The band first came to attention last year with the singles You and I and New York Taxi (which may be viewed on YouTube) and now they’ve gone the whole hog with an album of original songs written by Declan Kiely, who’s originally from Cherrymount.

Their sound ranges from acoustic and folk to rock and pop, including the slow, reflective tracks You and I, Cadhla Sometimes and the title track, as well as the more upbeat New York Taxi.

The band was formed by Declan Kiely two years ago.

When Birds Are Sleeping was recorded over the last two years in Gaf Studios in Cahir and was mastered in London by Nick Watson of Fluid Mastering.

Cadhla’s line-up also includes Grace Hogan on backing vocals/keyboard, Andrew Kennedy on bass guitar, Lorraine Murphy on violin/banjo and drummer Daithí Blackett.

Declan Kiely says that the band’s fusion of “honest songwriting blends melodic basslines, keys, violin, guitar and drums and rouses feelings of love, loss and hope, with an underlying message to never underestimate the human spirit”.

When Birds Are Sleeping is now available on all major streaming platforms and is well worth checking out.

The band may be contacted on Twitter and Instagram and at [email protected]
