Tributes have been paid online to Matthew O'Brien from Ardfinnan who passed away yesterday on a Tipperary farm.

Authorities are investigating the sudden death of a man in his 60s who was discovered on a farm near Ardfinnan in Tipperary on Tuesday morning last.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 11.30am, where the man was pronounced dead. His remains have since been taken to University Hospital Waterford for a post-mortem examination, which will help determine the direction of the ongoing Garda investigation.

He has been named locally as Mathew, (Mattie) O'Brien from The Cross, Ardfinnan and formerly of Golden, Tipperary.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) was notified and has begun its own inquiry into the incident. The local coroner has also been informed, and a report will be compiled for the Coroner’s Court.

According to Gardaí, initial findings suggest no signs of foul play. A spokesperson for the HSA confirmed that an investigation is underway, but no further details are being released at this stage.

"Mathew, (Mattie) formerly of Curanna, Golden and Mullaney Gardens Cahir died unexpectedly. Son of the late Catherine and Willie, brother of the late Margaret and husband of the late Patricia. He will be very sadly missed by his loving partner Catherine, brothers William, John, Dermot and Tom, sister Mary, Catherine's children Catriona, James and Joseph, nephew's, nieces, brothers in law, sisters in law, extended family, neighbours and friends.

"Reposing at Costigan's Funeral Home, Cahir on Friday evening from 6pm to 7.30pm. Requiem mass on Saturday at 2.00pm in St. Mary's Church, Cahir followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery."

Tributes have been posted for Matthew online from friends and family also.

"Sincere condolences to Mathew's partner Catherine & family and to all the O'Brien family on the sad passing of Mathew, we will miss his cheerful Company & friendship at the weekend's may his gentle soul rest in peace."

"Sincere sympathy to Catherine. And all the O Brien family extended family on the sudden untimely passing of Matty. A great school pal who I had many a good laugh with. Rest in peace Matty .Thoughts and prayers are with you all."
