Heritage Day in Fethard is celebrated in style

100th anniversary is marked
The spectacular backdrop of the medieval walls of Fethad provided a perfect setting for a wonderful community event as the people of Fethard and surrounding areas came out to enjoy the local Heritage Festival and mark the 100th anniversary of the event.
“It was fantastic to see so many families coming together and coming out to enjoy all of the activities and entertainment that was on offer. We had a great crowd throughout the day. The crowds were up on last year and it was a great occasion,” said Fethard Community council member and one of the organisers, Pamela Sweeney.
“The people of Fethard support the Fethard Community Council all year around, and this is our way of giving back to the people. The council never makes money on it; it is not about that. It is about the joy of seeing so many families coming out to enjoy themselves,” she said.
Joe Kenny, Chairman of the Fethard Community Council, said everybody involved put in a massive effort to ensure that a fantastic day out was available for all to enjoy.
“We are very fortunate to have a great team of volunteers who organise this amazing event from start to finish,” said Joe Kenny.
One of the key driving forces of the organisers, said Joe Kenny, was that the people of the town were given a free day out. “That is what we wanted to achieve, to give something to the people of the town for free, and that was important for all of the volunteers” said Joe.
He thanked the businesses of Fethard for supporting the event so well and for generously responding to the organisers in the build-up to the event.
“It is a great example of volunteerism, and we hope events like this in Fethard inspire a new generation of community volunteers,” said Joe Kenny.
