Green Party candidate Iva Pocock has launched a video series ‘Ten Ideas for Tipp’ in the lead up to the General Election.
“The first idea is very simple,” said Pocock. “Elect more women to the Dáil.”
Since the foundation of the State just four women have represented Co Tipperary in Dáil Eireann.
“They were Mary Ryan TD; Carrie Acheson TD; Theresa Ahearn TD and Maire Hoctor TD,” said Pocock. “That’s 4 women versus 34 men in over 100 years.”

“How can our democracy be at its best if women, who are roughly half of the population, are not represented equally in Dáil Eireann?” asks Pocock.
“Women have different day-to-day experiences of life and work. We define and analyse problems and develop alternative solutions differently to men. For the massive challenges we face - from housing to climate change - we need women at the decision making table.”
“I’m urging voters to think about righting the dreadful inequality of gender representation for Tipperary when they had to the polls.”
The remaining Ten Ideas for Tipp videos will be released over the coming weeks on Pocock’s social media accounts.
