Tipperary community care facility receives a positive report from Hiqa inspector

The Dean Maxwell nursing home in Roscrea has received a generally positive report following an inspection by the Health Inspection and Quality Authority (Hiqa).

The authority carried out an unannounced inspection on the HSE operated facility last November and issued its report in March.

There were 20 residents at the community care home on the day of the inspection.

The report notes: “The overall feedback from residents was that they were happy living in the centre.

“The inspector observed that staff were kind and responsive to residents’ needs.

“Interactions between staff and residents were meaningful and unhurried. Although some actions were required to bring the premises into compliance with the regulations, the centre’s environment was homely and welcoming.”

The report states that the inspector found the centre to be warm and bright and the atmosphere in the centre was calm.

“Staff were observed encouraging and supporting residents, many of whom were having lunch in the main dining room,” it states.

The report covers 21 areas in which the care home was inspected and the inspector found Dean Maxwell to be compliant in 12 of those areas and substantially compliant in seven areas.

There were only two areas in which the home was non-compliant - training and staff development and individual assessment and care plan.
