A Tipperary councillor has called on the council to intervene in the airing of tonight's RTE investigates

Cllr John Crosse raised the show’s release at today’s full meeting of Tipperary County Council.

He asked if there was a ‘mechanism’ by which the council could intervene.

“If there is any way at all we can stop that programme going out tonight, we should try to do that, but I suspect we can’t.”

Cllr Crosse said over the weekend, he has spoken to farming organisations who are worried about the impact of the show.

He accused RTE of ‘imbalance’ in the programme and said there would be a ‘negative fallout’ for the agricultural sector from its airing.

Cllr Crosse said that because of the ‘power of the media’, he didn’t think anything could be done.

But they should be prepared to challenge the findings tomorrow.

He said he had ‘huge concerns’ for dairy farmers as a result of the documentary.

RTE investigated the treatment of male calves at marts in Ireland and during live export.

The documentary is due to air at 9:35pm tonight.
