Holding the Tipperary and Irish flags, Will Fleury celebrates a famous victory
Will Fleury is the latest World Champion to hail from Tipperary after the Cahir native claimed the OKTAGON MMA Light Heavyweight title in front of a packed arena in Prague.
Over 20,000 fans were there cheering as the 35-year-old won by unanimous decision over 39-year-old Karlos Vemola following a comprehensive display of guts and class.
The crowd had favoured the home-town local hero throughout the evening however the Tipperary fighter showed his class to see off the bout with judges calling it 50-44 at the end of a challenging fight.
The O2 Arena in Prague saluted Ireland’s inaugural OKTAGON MMA World Champion after he paid tribute to his opponent afterwards by saying his opponent was top class and he didn't know how Vemola could have lasted five rounds, such was the form the Cahir native was in.
The win means that 2024 closes with glory for the Tipperary fighter who will look to 2025 with expectation now and a title defence is on the cards.
