Rockwell College are in rugby action today in a keenly anticipated encounter against Bandon Grammar School who are a growing force in rugby in Munster.
The Pinergy Munster Senior Cup game is set to take place in Fethard Town Park at 2.30pm today (Wednesday the 29th of January) with a large crowd expected to cheer on the Tipperary school against the quality Cork side.
Head of Rugby, Kevin Leamy says “It’s exciting times for rugby in Rockwell at the moment, our new All-Weather facility will be up and running in the next couple of weeks.
“This project has been funded by past pupils of the college and their legacy will be hugely beneficial to the future generations of rugby players in Rockwell. Its significance cannot be overestimated.”
Rockwell Rugby manager Kevin O'Hora says that this year’s senior team at Rockwell comprise mostly of Clonmel, Clanwilliam and Cashel members but still maintains the national and international eclectic mix which is traditional in Rockwell teams.
There are joint captains in Lucas Sheil from Kilsheelin and Ralph Kerry from Clonmel leading the journey in the cup campaign. Aidan Butler, head coach of the senior team, has implemented a quick tempo style of running rugby married with a quiet aggression.
Aidan says “I’m so looking forward to this year’s campaign, the coaching staff and the players have formed a very cohesive and determined unit. We will be a match for any opponent.”
