Six-year-old Aqua Force scored a 28-length win in the concluding Ronan Lawlor Memorial Irish EBF Mares Bumper at Gowran Park on Saturday for Mullinahone trainer Michael Gunn who sent out his first winner on the racecourse in over 28 years.
It was a proud day for the Gunn family as Michael's son Miguel said he had six horses training at the moment and was overwhelmed with well wishers at the end of the race.
Ridden by Niall Moore, she led before the turn out of the back straight and went clear two furlongs from home for a stunning debut success at the main expense of David Broad’s runner-up, the 5/1 chance Champagne Venture.
There were massive cheers as Aqua Force provided the Gunn family with a famous win while making a debut at Gowran.
The winner, a daughter of Workforce, was a longshot but gradually moved in to 20/1 during betting at the track. The Tipp trained horse found some space and struck the front coming towards the straight as Niall Moore steadied matters.
In the end she had 28 lengths over Champagne Venture while Doing It In Style finished third six further lengths back. Introversio had started favourite but never got going in the race and was pulled up.
