Well-known horse trainer’s home and race track goes up for millions in Tipperary

The abode of the famous late horse trainer Edward O’Grady has gone up for sale for an eye-watering price in Killeens, Thurles, Tipperary. 

207 acres of land is up for grabs, with stables, barns, and a beautiful five-bed house situated on the site. 

The 19th century Georgian country house and its surrounding grounds is up for sale for a cool 3.25 million euro. 

Auctioneer Roseanne De Vere Hunt said that a good few viewings for the property have already taken place and that the land is of “excellent quality”. 

De Vere Hunt, who works for Sherry Fitzgerald, considers the house to be amongst “one of the best properties in the county”.

The listing on Daft.ie reads: “With deep bay windows, five bedrooms, and a rosette-festooned kitchen boasting what is said to be one of the oldest Agas in Ireland – although there is a contemporary cooker too – it is a place for conversation, relaxation, entertaining and memorable celebration. 

Over the years, owners who entrusted their horses to Killeens have included Robert Sangster, the Duke of Bedford, the President of Ireland, and JP McManus. 

The property further boasts a two bedroom staff apartment, 76 boxes in two stable yards for horses and several outbuildings. 

For those with the means, an adjacent home is also for purchase across the street for an extra 250,000 euro, which could house additional staff, groundskeepers or  managers of the property. 

Edward O’Grady passed away in July 2025 following a short illness. He is survived by five children.
