Mr Purcell shared an honest account of his career, tracing his path from completing the Leaving Cert at Nenagh CBS to studying at Ballyfermot College, navigating the media industry, and ultimately establishing a role in the Civil Service. There, he combines his expertise in video production with public service.
Many will recall Mr Purcell’s early work filming the school’s historic basketball All Ireland victory in 2008 under Coach Freeman, an early indication of his talent behind the camera. More recently, his documentary on Loughmore has been screened in cinemas across Nenagh, Limerick, Kilkenny and Thurles, reflecting his dedication to storytelling and preserving local heritage.
Addressing the students, Mr Purcell emphasised that career paths are rarely linear. He noted that unexpected turns can provide formative experiences and opportunities that might otherwise remain undiscovered.
The school extended its gratitude to Mr Purcell for taking the time to share his insights. His openness about the challenges and triumphs of his journey was particularly appreciated by students.
In further news, Mr Purcell announced that his documentary Loughmore to the Front has been officially selected for the London Lift Off competition, marking a significant milestone after previous projects were not accepted.
