Gardai have closed roads in Clonmel

All roads in Old Bridge are now open and the incident has ended.

The army bomb disposal unit and gardai have left the scene.

The army bomb disposal unit is in Clonmel this evening dealing what is reported to be a suspect package.

Roads in the Old Bridge  area have been cordoned off and motorists are asked to stay away from the area and take alternative routes.

The alert began late this afternoon, before 5pm. It is not known when the area will be made safe or when roads will reopen.

Gardai say that because of an ongoing incident roads on the Old Bridge side of the river Suir are closed between the Grotto and Drohan's Forge on the Dungarvan Road.

There is local access as far as Brook Crescent.
