Army called out to Tipperary bomb scare - homes evacuated

Army Bomb Disposal Unit

The Army Bomb Disposal Unit and Gardai are responding to a security incident in a Tipperary village tonight.

A number of houses in the village have been evacuated and roads closed.

Gardai have confirmed to The Nationalist that the army have been called in to investigate a suspicious device. They are expected on the scene in the next hour - between 10pm and 11pm (Monday, April 2).

Several houses in the Beechwood estate in Dundrum village have been evacuated for the safety of residents.

Roads have also been closed in the area and motorists are asked to take alternative routes.

More on this ongoing incident as updates are released.

This is the second call out for the Army Bomb Disposal Unit to Tipperary this week. Last Thursday a large area in Clonmel's Old Bridge community was cordoned off for several hours while a suspicious package was investigated. That proved to be a hoax.
