Huge sadness at death of Tipperary councillor Eddie O'Meara from Mullinahone

The death has taken place of popular Tipperary councillor Eddie O'Meara.

Mr O'Meara, from Mullinahone, died on Thursday night. He was 69.

When elected to Tipperary County Council in 1999, he was the first councillor from Mullinahone in fifty years.

A former member of Fianna Fail for many years, he ran in the election as an independent and remained so throughout his career in the council.

He was a former chairman of the Carrick-on-Suir Municipal Council.

He was hugely popular and highly regarded in his native village where he was seen as a man to get things done.

|He played key roles in the development of vital local facilities, such as the GAA centre, Knocknagow Community Hall and the school.

A friend recalls him as a great people's person, always having time to listen and help where he could.

“He was very approachable and always willing to help”, he says.

His brother Richie passed away earlier this year.
