Suir Island car park in Clonmel will have 264 spaces

The redevelopment of the car park at Suir Island, Clonmel will gather pace this week, with Clonmel Borough District expected to notify the successful contractor following the assessment of tenders.

When completed the car park will have 264 spaces and this second phase of the work will include ducting, new public lighting, re-surfacing and landscaping.

"The council will also make provision for bus and camper van spaces", says Cllr. Siobhan Ambrose.

"The council are hoping that, pending no significant setbacks, the Suir Island car park will be completed by Christmas", she says.

"This car park, including the bus and camper van spaces, will not only be an addition to locals but will also be available to visitors and tourists to our town, especially those using the nearby canoe slalom course on the river".

She says that the successful contractor will have two weeks in which to supply the relevant documents, including insurance, and also to confirm a specific starting date for this project.

Cllr. Ambrose hopes that the work will start in the coming weeks.

She is also looking forward to the completion of the council's overall masterplan for Suir Island itself as a community amenity area, including walkways.
