Tipperary's 'adults only' coffee bar filters out the noise of children

Alan Andrews and his team.

The Old Barracks Coffee Roastery and Coffeebar opened its doors in July,  strictly for adults only.

Entrepreneur Alan Andrews is filtering out the noise of children in his coffeebar in Birdhill, Co. Tipperary.

Since opening, the team at The Old Barracks have received positive feedback from visitors with compliments on the relaxed atmosphere, quirky interiors, live coffee roasting and the engagement from the baristas on all things coffee.

Alan says ‘people are just enjoying the space and enjoying their coffee in peace, without distraction from their kids – or other people’s kids. We’re really happy with the response.’ Although it hasn’t all been positive feedback, visitors have taken to Tripadvisor and Facebook to give their opinion on what they say is a ‘pretentious’ and ‘overpriced’ experience. TheJournal.ie conducted a survey with over 11,000 people, 74% of whom said they would make use of an adults only café.

Located in Ireland’s Tidiest Town, Birdhill, just minutes off the M7, the coffeebar in the light filled conservatory oozes character and cool vibes with all the espresso machinery sunken below the counter so visitors can watch exactly how the friendly and knowledgeable baristas make the drinks.

The handmade concrete island is perfect for sitting at and enjoying the smells and sounds of beans being freshly roasted right beside you. Enjoying the stunning views of the river Shannon, tastes of specialty coffee and the laid back charm is all to be expected with a visit to The Old Barracks.

One pleased visitor took to Tripadvisor to say “Fabulous hidden gem of a place serving delicious cakes & specialty coffee. Worth the trip for the laid back hospitality and yummy goodies. There are loads of choices for coffee, come prepared to have more than one coffee to compare”, while another says “Sometimes you just need somewhere quiet, where you can take 10 minutes without the kids. It's definitely a niche, but I'd recommend it.”
