Tipperary TD named on Russian travel ban list
Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill has said he is been named on the Russian travel ban list issued this week.
In a statement released today, the deputy said his inclusion had been confirmed to him by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
He said the new sanction against him do not impact his support for the Ukrainian people.
“I am proud to stand with the people of Ukraine and against the shameful, illegal, murderous campaign that Putin is waging against Ukraine and her people.
“Vladimir Putin is nothing but a bully. He’s a tyrant. He’s a thug, said Mr Cahill.
Mr Cahill is one of 52 Irish politicians banned from entering Russia this week.
The Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Ministers for Justice Helen McEntee and Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney, as well as Labour leader Ivana Bacik, have been reported as listed.
While the Department of Foreign Affairs has said it would not release the list, individuals listed have been using their inclusion to reiterate their support for Ukraine.
“I’ve been a member of the Ireland-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group for two years, and our cross-party group has stood in solidarity with the people of Ukraine since Putin first invaded.
“I will continue to stand for decency, respect for human life, peace, and the sovereign right of a people to self-determination”, said Mr Cahill.
