Fake missing person appeal on social media
A Tipperary councillor has issued an alert about a fake missing person post on social media.
Cllr Imelda Goldsboro said: "Please be careful of posts you are sharing.
"These are scams and accounts are getting hacked.
"The post below is not genuine and if in doubt, don't share the posts."
The post the councillor is talking about mentions an "urgent - missing" appeal for a man aged 79 who drove out on Friday around 4.30pm from Cashel.
The fake post, which features a picture of an old man holding a dog, says: "We tracked his card getting gas but he doesn't know where he's going he has dementia.
"He doesn't have a phone or onStar. He hasn't filled up anymore so he may be stopped and resting.
"There is a silver alert activated as well. Please help me bump this post so I can get him home safely and quickly as well as our dog, Rex."
The post was put up on a local community group Facebook page.
