The Tipperary Olympian shared a message with her 274,000 Instagram followers
Tipperary’s Sharlene Mawdsley shared a touching message with her supporters following victory at the Palio Citta della Quercia.
The Irish Olympian ran a strong race in the 400m, finishing with a time of 50.58 seconds.
Back in competitive action following the hamstring injury which ruled her out of last month's European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, Mawdsley showed few signs of rust as she clocked 50.58 seconds to claim top spot.
The 28-year-old had suffered the injury while competing over 200m at the National Championships in Santry in July, forcing her to miss the European Championships.
Her return came at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting in Rovereto, where she edged out Britain's Charlotte Henrich to secure victory in the women's 400m.
Posting on Instagram following the victory, Mawdsley said: “50.58 and a win in @paliocittadellaquercia.
“This one means more than any other race this season. It's been a JOURNEY getting back on track, but I'm so grateful I made it and to be back doing what I love.
“I also managed to qualify for the World Ultimate Championships, which start this Friday in Budapest!! After missing Europeans, I am so excited to have a chance to race in the green this season.
“Thank you for all the continued love & for those who got me back on track.”
