Popular Chicago band to round off Suirfest 2023 in Clonmel

Special Consensus from Chicago will round off Suirfest 2023 in Clonmel with a performance in Raheen House on Saturday night

The inaugural Suirfest music festival continues in Clonmel this coming weekend.

As part of the programme a Chicago band called Special Consensus will perform on Saturday, February 4 in Raheen at 9pm.

Suirfest 2023  finishes  in Raheen House Hotel with  this show with the Chicago  band  who are no longer strangers to town. They have performed three times before in Clonmel.

Formed in the Chicago area in 1975, Special Consensus is a four-person acoustic bluegrass band.
The 2023 tour will be the band’s 47th year of touring! They have released 20 albums and have appeared on numerous NPR programmes in the USA and cable television shows, including The Nashville Network and the Grand Ole Opry at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.

The band is led by its co-founder Greg Cahill, who plays banjo and sings baritone and tenor harmony vocals. Greg Cahill is the former President/Board Chair of the Nashville-based International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA)
Special Consensus was founded by Greg as a showcase for his urban traditionalist take on bluegrass which encompasses elements of Chicago blues, swing, newgrass, and country music
Greg Blake plays guitar and sings lead and harmony vocals.

He has toured Ireland with Geoff Scroggins, and with his own band. He has an amazing country/bluegrass singing voice.
Dan Eubanks plays bass and sings lead, baritone and bass vocals.
Michael Prewett is the newest member of the band.
He plays mandolin and sings lead and harmony vocals. Special Consensus has been coming to Ireland biennially since 1997.
The 2023 tour of Ireland and the UK is their longest to date, and includes appearances at the famous Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow.

The band has been twice Grammy nominated, for best bluegrass album, and has won numerous awards, including the 2016 IBMA Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year Award for Fireball from their Compass Records release Long I Ride.
