Party time in Clonoulty as 'The West’s Awake' festival is here!

The Rebel Hearts will perform in Clonoulty this June

The month of May is the month when all of nature is bursting into bloom and it is also when the parish of Clonoulty/Rossmore is bursting into action in preparation for the annual music festival The West’s Awake!
The festival itself was the brainchild of a sub-committee of Clonoulty/Rossmore GAA, that in 2016 met to explore the staging of a one day music festival to cover the massive costs of facilities. The new clubhouse is also in need of funds for upkeep.

The club have now renamed their grounds to “The Dillon Quirke GAA Grounds” in memory of Dillon who sadly passed away on the field of play in August of last year. Upgrading the facilities at the venue was necessary for patrons to enjoy top-class amenities at the venue.

Like many other clubs, the main source of income in the club across the year comes from the weekly lotto which is an outstanding success. It takes so much time to help with sales and the administration of the draw and the club expressed their gratitude to those who carry out the work each week.

The jackpot, at present, is a whopping €19,200. Various fundraising endeavours in recent years were held to reduce the debt on the facilities such as “Strictly Come Dancing”, “Bust up in the Ballroom” and other smaller events.

It is testament to Clonoulty that their efforts are continuing year in year out as the club continues to expand. A thriving club necessitates ongoing fundraising and the west Tipperary club continues to put in a huge effort. The sub-committee within Clonoulty, back in 2016, formed the opinion that the club had a perfect venue for a music festival with its elevated view to the lower level pitch.

Sunday of the June Bank Holiday was the preferred date for “The West’s Awake”. Since then the festival has taken place every year with the exception of the pandemic years. It has been a resounding success.

Each year, well-known top-class bands and artists have entertained huge crowds. The atmosphere on the day is one of camaraderie and enjoyment, due in no small way to the hard working committee, the goodwill from parishioners and the support from the surrounding areas.

Once again there is top class entertainment this year. Heading the list will be the amazing Whistlin’ Donkeys.
Joining them is the lively and popular Rebel Hearts. Molly O’Connell of Glór Tíre fame and the renowned Silver Dollar are also on the ticket for what promises to be a fantastic day.

A wonderful day’s entertainment full of music, song and craic is guaranteed at The Dillon Quirke GAA Grounds, Clonoulty on Sunday, June 4th. Tickets are on sale now at https://secure.tickets.ie/Listing/EventInformation/44760/wests-awake-festival-2023 or from any committee member in the club. There will be a bar and food available on the day.
