Our school celebrated Think Languages Week from Monday, December 4 to Friday, December 8. A Post-Primary Languages Ireland (PPLI) initiative, this national language event for TY students, works to raise awareness of the many languages and cultures in Ireland and around the world.

Activities and online workshops took place during the week, in classes and on Friday, December 8, in the main hall. TY students enjoyed preparing and sampling European dishes in Home Economics class.

Thank you to Sinéad Egan for her delicious school menu with treats and dishes from around the world.

Our TY Choir performed Silent Night in French, German, English and as Gaeilge.

TY Art worked on a Cultural Identity project.‍ TY Science studied Scientists and discoveries of the world. TY Religion examined how Christmas is celebrated in countries around the world.

TY Geography discovered Paris and France in preparation for their TY School Tour.

Our International students gave presentations on their countries to our TY students. We enjoyed an Italian and German online workshop and Kahoot quiz.

Past pupil Margaret Mockler, shared on a Teams call, her own language learning journey, which began in the Pres and the opportunities afforded to her in her work with Mandarin Chinese.

Our guest speaker on the day was Language Teacher and friend of the Pres, Mary B. Lanigan Ryan. She shared the opportunities that a language brings and how we can learn and respect one another as language learners.

We closed an enjoyable, fun-filled day with Just Dance and music. All students received a certificate for partaking in a busy and rewarding Think Languages 2023.

Thank you to all of our students, teachers and our energetic Think Languages Student Committee for all their work and support, ensuring a memorable and successful Think Languages Week 2023. Pres abú!
