Sharlene Mawdsley must race again after finishing fourth in 400m heat at the Paris Olympics

Tipperary athlete Sharlene Mawdsley will go to the repechage if she is the qualify for the 400m semi-finals after finishing fourth in her heat in Paris this morning.

Mawdsley ran strongly over the first 250m of the race and looked good to qualify in the top three but she ran out of pace in the final straight and finished with a time of 50:70 behind Marileidy Paulino (Dominican Republic), Aaliyah Butler (USA), and Susanne Gogl-Walli (Austria).

The Newport AC athlete will now compete in the repechage tomorrow for a final chance to qualify for the semi-final.
