RIP: Former All-Ireland winning captain and current Tipperary GAA President sadly passes away

There is profound sadness in Toomevara GAA and the wider Tipperary GAA community after the news of the passing of Matt Hassett.

The Toomevara man captained Tipperary to All-Ireland success in 1961. Hassett, however, finished his hurling career prematurely due to injury in 1963, having won one All-Ireland, two Munster titles, and a National League title, and also won a county championship with Toomevara in 1960.

After his playing days, he went on to hold numerous administrative roles at both club and county levels over the years, and at the time of his death, he was the current President of Tipperary GAA.
