Golden Globe-nominated actress and proud Tipperary woman Kerry Condon has revealed what it was really like filming the much-anticipated Formula 1 movie alongside Hollywood heavyweight Brad Pitt.

Best known for her powerful performances in The Banshees of Inisherin and Better Call Saul, Condon takes on a new challenge in this high-octane action drama, which will hit cinemas on June 25th.

In the film, Kerry plays Kate McKenna — the race director of fictional F1 team APXGP, and notably, the sport’s first female technical director. It’s another trailblazing role for the Thurles native, who’s flying the flag for Tipp on the world stage.

Speaking ahead of the movie’s release, Kerry described working with Brad Pitt as a major career highlight.

“Working with Brad was like a dream come true,” she confessed.

“He’s been in the business so long, and he’s worked with some amazing people, I just wanted to be in his top ten co-stars. That was my aim.”

Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a legendary F1 driver from the '90s forced into retirement after a serious crash. When his old friend and team owner Ruben (played by Javier Bardem) asks him to return and mentor a rising star, Hayes is pulled back into the fast-paced world of racing.

That rising star is rookie driver Joshua “Noah” Pearce, played by Damson Idris, who also impressed Condon on set.

“Working with Damson Idris was fun. He’s like a child, he has so much energy,” she said.

Incredibly, the movie was filmed over two years at actual Grand Prix events across the globe — adding real-world tension and excitement to the project.

“The stuff we shot at the grand prix was so timed to a tee,” Kerry explained.

“We had to shoot pitstop stuff during the actual Grand Prix races so I felt very much like I was part of a team at the Grand Prix – I was nervous, excited, I didn’t know what was going to happen. It was amazing, really amazing.”

“We were really encouraged to have fun, which was strange – I was surprised I was getting paid to have fun but we wanted to capture a playfulness. We went all over the world.”

From the quiet roads of County Tipperary to the roaring circuits of Formula 1, Kerry Condon continues to prove she’s a star who can do it all.
