Newport defeated Cashel King Cormacs 3-21 to 2-14 in Sunday’s Tipperary County U17A Hurling Championship semi-final at Dundrum, but the result was overshadowed by a late outbreak of violence.

As referee Kevin Jordan blew the final whistle, tempers flared between the two sets of players, leading to a melee that forced officials to step in.
When order was restored, Jordan showed straight red cards to four players, two from each team.
The dismissals capped off an otherwise entertaining contest, with Newport the sharper side throughout. Their victory secures a place in the county final, though the attention is likely to linger on the disciplinary fallout from Dundrum.
Newport will be looking to add to their U13A county title won earlier this month, as they will face a star-studded Durlas Óg outfit in the final which will take place next Saturday afternoon in Dundrum at 4pm.
