Huge boost for Tipp road users with significant road returned to the National Development Plan

A major road upgrade in south Tipperary, the N24 Cahir to Waterford project, has been restored to the National Development Plan (NDP). Local representatives say the decision is a major boost for the area.

The improvement works, which cover a key route that accounts for 1% of Tipperary’s road network, are scheduled to proceed in two phases: the Cahir to Limerick Junction section and the Cahir to Waterford section.

The Cahir to Limerick Junction stretch had been given priority, while progress on the Cahir to Waterford portion had stopped because of funding shortages.

With the scheme now reinstated in the NDP, there is renewed confidence that the entire route will go ahead.

Independent councillor John O'Heney confirmed that the project has been added back into the plan and said its purpose is to improve safety for those who travel on the N24.
